Stay Home

I need to stay home if...

  • I have a fever: temperature of 100 degrees F or Higher
  • I am vomiting: within the past 24 hours
  • I have diarrhea: within the past 24 hours
  • I have a rash: body rash with itching and fever
  • I have head lice: itchy head, active head lice
  • I have an ear infection: redness & itching with crusty drainage from eye

Go Back to School

I am ready to go back to school when I am...

  • Fever free for 24 hours without the use of fever reducing medication (i.e. Tylenol, Motrin)
  • Free from vomiting for at least 24 hours
  • Free from diarrhea for at least 24 hours
  • Free from rash: itching & fever free for 24 hours without fever reducing medication (i.e. Tylenol, Motrin)
  • Treated with lice treatment, have no live bugs no nits within 1/4 in of scalp & have been checked by health staff.
  • Evaluated by my doctor & have a note to return to school.

Health Insurance

APS' Medicaid Department is available to help families enroll in Medicaid or refer for other eligible services.Please call 505-855-5261 or 505-855-9820 (for Spanish speakers) for more information.

Health Screenings

Health screenings are completed yearly for Pre-k, Kindergarten, 1st, 3rd, and 5th grade and for students new to APS. These screenings include vision, hearing, height/weight, and dental.

Parents/guardians will be notified if there is any need for further attention in these areas.

If you would like to opt-out of having your child screened, please notify the health office in writing.
